Pin ups

Pin up 01

My intention is to re purpose the use of an atrium mall by creating an exhibition space that allows people to interact better with the use of HCI. Hence, I went to do a further research on how use of HCI could be an advantage or disadvantage to IT-enthusiast and beginners. Apart from that, since gestures is actually used as a common language of communication, hence, I intend to further explore the different hand signs that are used in computers as well as humans as a way of translating the idea of HCI.

Besides, I have also did a chart based on observational study of the different shops selling IT related gadgets, such as Harvey Norman, Best Denki and more. Through my findings, most of these areas have similar zoning space such as the testing space, in which it allows users to experience their new products. Additionally, becoming a way of advertising new launched products.

Hence, with this mapping out of the IT-enthusiast, I have actually came up with the spaces i hope my designed space would consist of.

As for my concept, I tried looking into atrium as the main area which acts like a heart that would keep mall from circulating (or working). Therefore, I came up with the word 'Spark', like a core which act as a heart of the space.

Beyond, I also analyse the main circulation space of how people would enter and circulate around the mall before I did my zoning of plans and sections.

However, after the critic, I realized that I do not have a persona that would tie my idea of exhibition. Furthermore, I feel that I need to have a better understanding on how what HCI is and how it really works. And rethink of my concept, as it seems not clear enough.

Detailing Models

Detailing

Linking to the idea of technology, I have chosen to use Renzo Piano's "Shard" as a case study detail model to understand the method of construction. Similarly, aiming to create an essence of the reflection onto the glass bringing the idea of modernity.

Precedent Study

Through the different case studies that shows how Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and how it further create interaction between human and human. Furthermore, the experiences of the users affected by the use of visuals and sounds in a virtual space.

HCI

History of HCI

Site

Site Choices

In focusing in to the Peninsula Shopping Mall area as a better and more appropriate site, as it relates better to a place to promote HCI, due to it located near to Funan Digital Mall which sells all technology and digital related.

Mapping of the Noise Level

With reference to my site analysis, I believe that Funan Mall(a mall adjacent to Peninsula Plaza Shopping Mall) is a better location. As it is much secluded space, and is rarely visited by people unless there is a need to buy digital electronics gadgets. Additionally, with my idea of promoting HCI as a medium to re-attract people to the space.

The site should  one of the local malls that consist of have high human traffic and a hectic surrounding, however not attracting a lot of customers into the site. Therefore, a potential site is the Funan Digital Life Mall, Located at 109 North Bridge Rd, Singapore 179097.
As I did my site analysis, I use the motherboard system of the CPU and connect it to my site. (As shown below) With all the hectic human activities that are occurring like the flow of the electric currents.

Government building, (in blue) which acts as the brain of the computer (CPU), as they are the ones that determine and plan out the future path of the country.
Open spaces, (in green) that acts as the micro processor fan, as it is where relaxing activities would take place. Such as a walk by the reservoir or playing soccer at the field space.

Historical and religious buildings, (in orange) which runs like a memory RAM, to show the historical value of the country and its origin.

Malls and hotels, (in pink) that acts as the power supply , as it is where the source of income of the country come from, by bringing in tourist and locals to shop.

Beyond, to further analyze the potential user around my site, I did more analyze path circulation patterns to show their circulation path.

And the study of the different speed motion of the circulation paths of the different users using the main axis lines.
